Buying and caring for a money tree? All about the Pachira Aquatica!

Looking to buy a money tree? These green houseplants bring a sense of tranquility and nature to your home and look great in any interior! This Pachira aquatica, also known as the money tree, water cocoa, or money plant, is a perfect example. The Pachira plant originates from South America and thrives in areas prone to flooding. In the wild, it can grow up to twenty meters tall. You wouldn't want one that tall in your home! As an ornamental, it's sold in more manageable sizes, ranging from 50 to 200 cm. In Asia, where it's known as the Malabar chestnut, it's also called the money tree. In that part of the world, the plant symbolizes business success, so you'll often find them in offices and businesses.

Pachira (money tree) money plant care

The Pachira plant needs a good amount of water every two to three weeks. Because the Pachira stores water in its stem, the soil should be allowed to dry out before watering again. In summer, the plant needs more water, and the soil can still be slightly moist before watering. In winter, the plant needs less water. Don't water too often, as this can cause the roots to stand in water, as this can cause root rot.

The best spot for your money tree is in a north-facing window, or a west/east-facing window a few meters away. Money trees like plenty of light, but not too much direct sunlight. A south-facing window is therefore less suitable.
